Three cases of Depression following Non-cancerous Hysterectomy


Abstract
Three cases of depression following non-cancerous hysterectomy among women aged in thirties were presented and some psychodynamic factors which were thought to he related to the causes, for the depression were elucidated.
All of the cases firmly regarded the uterus as a significant symbol of feminity and loss of this love object caused depression. One patient was particularly concerned with sterility resulting from hysterectomy. And subsequently depression developed. This patient had 3 daughters and had a great desire to have a son. Another cases had spells of previous psychotic symptom before hysterectomy.
